Image: Toyota Invests in EV Charging Network IONNA to Increase Charging Access for Customers

This summer, Toyota announced its investment in the EV charging network IONNA to support the development of a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota, along with six other automakers, is backing IONNA with the goal of making EV charging stations more accessible to drivers.

IONNA aims to install at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will be equipped with both NACS and CCS connectors to ensure compatibility with all BEVs. The first wave of DC fast-charging stations is set to be deployed this year, with more to follow across the country.

This initiative underscores Toyota’s commitment to BEVs. Currently, the automaker offers two BEVs: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. Toyota also plans to launch two three-row BEV SUVs soon and aims to have 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.

In joining forces with other major automakers like BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis, Toyota is helping to bolster EV charging infrastructure, which will likely drive greater adoption of electric vehicles.
