What's New For the 2021 Toyota 4Runner?
In 2021, the Toyota 4Runner family expands to include nine trim levels. Now, a new trim called the Trail Special Edition joins the lineup. The Trail Special Edition is now the second trim level in the legendary 4Runner series. The Trail Special Edition adds some notable features to the base trim's package, including attractive 17-inch wheels, custom paint colors in green or black, distinctive upholstery, and a standard roof rack. On all trims of the 4Runner, you'll find impressive safety features, mechanical prowess, and many options for a custom finish, including several paint colors.
Available Features in the 2021 4Runner
The SR5 is still the base trim of the 4Runner in 2021. This trim gets a body-on-frame construction and a large infotainment display screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Toyota's Safety Sense package is standard on the base trim. Next, the Trail Special Edition gets dark gray alloy wheels. A Yakima cargo basket is included, and a premium accessory cooler with tie-down straps in the cargo area. The SR5 premium follows with a push-button start, heated side mirrors with LED indicators, and special SofTex trimmed seats.
Part-time four-wheel drive, custom 17-inch wheels, and crawl control are standard on the TRD Off-Road. The Off-Road Premium adds a smart key system. The Venture Special Edition comes next with a different cargo basket, a black spoiler, and a black door handle. The Limited upgrades to perforated leather seats and 20-inch wheels, while the Nightshade Edition gets black exterior accents and blacked-out door handles.

How Much Power Does the Toyota 4Runner Have?
All nine 4Runner trims are powered by the same engine, a 4.0-liter V6 with a maximum power output of 270 HP. This engine produces a maximum of 278 LB-FT of torque to match. This engine is paired with a standard 5-speed automatic transmission. The base trim and Limited have rear-wheel drive, while the others have four-wheel drive.
Safety Features in the Forefront for 2021
Each 4Runner trim is well-equipped for safety with Toyota's Safety Sense P package included on all. This package includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The 4Runner also comes with automatic headlights.
