What's New For the 2020 Toyota Tacoma?

Toyota has made some changes to the perennially popular Tacoma mid-size pickup truck. Toyota is looking to remain one of the most popular brands for mid-size vehicles by upgrading a few things for their 2020 models. The new features are both compelling and more competitive than they've ever been.

The third-generation Tacoma comes in a design that rivals that of desert race trucks. Available in 32 unique configurations, the 2020 Tacoma provides a model for every season and every occasion. All Tacoma models come standard with Safety Sense, High-Speed Dynamic Radar, Lane Departure Alert, and automatic high beams, to name a few.

The Tacoma Has Many Features Across Several Trims

On the outside, not much has changed. There are new grills in the front, and the top trims have new LED headlights with turn signals that are similar to past models. Almost every trim level of the Tacoma comes with a redesigned grille that's unique to the trim, and all Tacomas receive new tail light designs.

Models like the TRD Pro, the prime off-road vehicle, can be fitted with accessories like a dust snorkel, designed to put cleaner air out into the engine if you're off-roading in the desert. The more important news for the cosmetic aspect of the 2020 Tacoma is the color. The Voodoo Blue that was exclusive for the 2019 TRD Pro models has now been replaced with a new Army green that's sure to please.

With the 2020 model comes an upgraded multimedia system that includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa capabilities. On V6 models SR5, electronically power-adjusted seats come standard; multi-terrain and panoramic view monitors are available on top grades. 17-inch wheels, a new chrome insert tail lamp, passenger Smart Key and 8-inch touchscreen in the cab are among other notable and welcomed new features.

2020 Toyota Tacoma Power & Performance

2020 Toyota TacomaPower is still provided by either a standard 159 horsepower 2.7-liter, four-cylinder engine, or the optional 278 horsepower Atkinson Cycle V6, which is standard on the top trim models. Both engines come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission. You can also opt for the six-speed manual on the six available models. When equipped with the V6 Tow Package, the Tacoma can pull up to a maximum of 6,800lbs.

Which Safety Features are Available on the Tacoma?

2020 Toyota TacomaThe 2020 Tacoma model is one of only three trucks to be awarded the IIHS Safety Award. Under the hood, there have been minimal changes, aside from the availability of Toyota's Safety Sense P system, which has been made standard across the board on all new Tacoma models. This system brings several electronic driver safety elements to the truck, including a pre-collision autonomous braking system with pedestrian detection, high-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.

Additional features include a monitor for tire pressure and active head restraints for the driver and front passenger seats to reduce whiplash during a rear-end collision. Every Tacoma has an Advanced Airbag System, knee airbags, and side curtain airbags.
