What's New For the 2019 Toyota Sequoia?

There are just a few changes to this year's Sequoia, but that's about all this best-selling SUV really needs. The Sequoia's strength in the past has been its durability, power, and safety. This year, the Sequoia takes to the roads with a class-leading towing capacity of 7,000 pounds. It is safer than ever too, thanks to the addition of Toyota's signature Safety Sense package, which is now standard on all trim levels. The Sequoia gets a slight update in the field of technology with an infotainment system that includes navigation and an enhanced audio system on select trim levels. There are eight exterior colors to choose from to give your Sequoia a signature look, and the highest-level trim (called the Platinum) rides on head-turning 20-inch wheels. The Sequoia can seat either seven or eight passengers depending on your preferred configuration, but either layout is designed to maximize cargo and passenger space.

2019 Sequoia Trims & Features

In 2019, there are four trim levels available in the Sequoia. The base model is called the SR5. There is plenty to look forward to in the way of standard amenities in this car, which features front and rear parking sensors to help you reverse and navigate with ease. A notable feature of this Sequoia is its LED lights that have both low-beam and high-beam light settings to help you drive with maximum confidence and visibility in a variety of settings. This trim level is configured for eight passengers. The second row has independently-moving seats to maximize cargo or passenger space as needed.

Next up is the TRD Sport. This trim level, as the name implies, gets a sportier appearance. Its list of standard features builds on the base model's with larger 20-inch wheels and a glossy black grille that has chrome accents. Automatic on/off lights take the worry out of seeing and being seen on the road. While the TRD Sport gets a custom look on the outside with its wheels and grille, the cabin gets an authentic look with TRD accents throughout, including embroidered floor mats and a shift knob bearing the trim's name.

The Limited is next in line. This trim features a power-operated liftgate to make loading and unloading as convenient as possible. The interior gets an enhanced appearance with soft leather seats. Starting with this trim level, you have the option of getting either a seven-passenger or an eight-passenger seating configuration. You can also upgrade to a more robust audio system and an infotainment system with navigation.

Last in the lineup is the Platinum. This top-end trim level comes standard with seats that are perforated and ventilated for year-round passenger comfort. A more sophisticated infotainment system comes standard, and it includes an app suite for ultimate connectivity. Other highlights of this trim level are a Blu-Ray system in the backseat and a variable rear suspension.

2019 Toyota Sequoia Horsepower

2019 Toyota Sequoia Exterior FrontThis year, there is just one engine in the Sequoia. All trim levels are powered by a 5.7L, eight-cylinder engine that produces up to 381 HP and up to 401 LB-FT of torque. This engine gives the Sequoia a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission on all trim levels, but you have the option of getting either 2WD or 4WD, which allows you to switch between the two for optimal condition-specific performance.

Toyota Sequoia Safety

2019 Toyota Sequoia Exterior RearThe Sequoia is designed for power and performance, but it is also a safe car. A variety of passive and active safety features are designed to keep occupants safe in case of an accident. The driver-assist suite, which is standard in the Safety Sense package, features notable technology such as blind-spot monitoring, forward collision avoidance with automatic emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert to help you react and respond in an instant to avoid a crash.
