What's New for the 2018 Toyota 86?

To many, the Toyota 86 may resemble the Scion FRS and Subaru BRZ due to the fact that they are all based off of the same platform and a collaboration between Toyota and Subaru. The Scion FRS is no longer available on the market as a result of Toyota's 2016 discontinuation of its Scion brand. The FRS is now available as the Toyota 86 and is a sibling to the Subaru BRZ. The Toyota 86 is an affordable sports car that offers both agile performance and great reliability. The Toyota 86's low center of gravity and 2815 curb weight allow for it to remain quick around turns. Everything about the 86, from the interior features to exterior features, screams "sports car".

2018 Toyota 86 Agility and Performance

Known to be a light, nimble, and fun car, the 2018 86 is powered by Subaru's well-proven flat-four boxer engine layout. This engine is a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine that produces 200-205 horsepower, 151-156 lb-ft of torque, and allows the 86 to achieve up to 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. The Toyota 86 engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a pricier six-speed automatic transmission. The six-speed automatic has the option for gear selection through both paddle-shifters and a gear-selector lever. Toyota's rear differential allows for the 86 to accelerate quickly out of turns. This new gearing, as explained by Toyota, is said to improve the low-end acceleration of the 86. When Vehicle Stability Control is in full-off mode, the combination with the rear differential puts a driver in full control of the Toyota 86.
