Although there are many unusual ways your car can act when it needs attention, you may be surprised if it suddenly starts to vibrate and shake. The vehicle can be difficult to operate when it's shaking and jolting around. A qualified technician's diagnosis is necessary to determine the source of the problems and get it repaired as quickly as possible.

Dented or Bent Axles

The axles under your car connect to the front and back tires and become damaged if you're in an accident or run over something while driving. When the axles are damaged, they can prevent the cars' wheels from moving smoothly or straight. A technician can take a closer look at the parts to determine if they're causing the vehicle to shake. If the axles are broken, the CV joints and driveshaft may need to be repaired or replaced.

Wheel Parts

Broken or loose wheel parts are also an area of concern if the wheel bearings or tie rod ends aren't in good shape. The ball joints may also need to be replaced. In some cases, the lug nuts may even be loose and can cause the wheel to feel wobbly or be at risk of falling off the vehicle. Wheel problems can put your safety at risk, making it necessary to take the car to a technician to prevent the issue from continuing.

Low Air in the Tires

Check your tires' PSI to get an idea of if they need more air and are correctly inflated. The air may be low if there's a leak, requiring hiring a professional to inspect everything. The tires may also be out of alignment or out of balance and can make it difficult to steer the car and drive straight.

Worn Brake Pads

Brake pads that are at the end of their lifespan can become less reliable when they don't have as much strength to make the car come to a complete stop. Most brake pads last an average of 50,000 miles, depending on how much pressure you apply throughout the day and how you drive. If the brake pads look thin, they may also create a loud screeching noise while causing the car to vibrate. Replace the pads immediately to protect your safety. The front pads tend to wear down quicker than the back pads.

Issues Under the Hood

Check the engine for a few parts that need to be replaced, which includes the spark plugs. The spark plugs may have loose connections or look worn. Air filters can also be clogged with dirt and may not allow enough oxygen into the engine. Replacing the air filter is simple to do and can resolve the problem.

EV Tax Credit & Charger Incentives

Federal EV Tax Credit
Right now, federal tax credits can reduce the cost of buying an electric Toyota. The Clean Vehicle Credit provides up to $7,500 toward eligible vehicles. There’s also a credit for installing a home EV charger—but both programs are ending soon. The charger credit expires after June 30, 2026, and the EV tax credit is set to end on September 30, 2025, unless extended. If you're thinking about going electric, don’t wait.
